About this Page

My name is Jim Carnicelli (aka James Vincent Carnicelli, II). I'm an alumnus of Santa Fe Catholic High School, having graduated in 1992. Every now and then, I'm curious about how my classmates are doing. I imagine I'm not the only one, so I decided to give my curious former classmates a summary of what I've been doing since graduation.

College

After graduating from Santa Fe, I went to Stevens Institute of Technology in Hoboken, New Jersey. I was pursuing a bachelors of science (BS) with a major in computer science (CS). My sophomore year, I met Ronda Lee Wieloch, who came to Stevens from a rural area outside Mosinee, Wisconsin, who would become my wife after graduation.

Three and a half years into my education, I left school for various reasons. Most notable was that I had by then been working for several years in the IT industry developing web applications in a time when few people were even aware of the Web. There were no classes to teach me how to use the technologies I was helping to create. So for the remaining year and a half, while Ronda finished earning her Bachelors of Engineering degree, I worked on developing my IT career in and around Hoboken.

Madison

As soon as Ronda graduated, we moved to Madison, Wisconsin. There, we got married and started a small IT company named Carnell Information Systems. I had a lot of fun developing some of the early web-based services, but after a while, we decided it wasn't a stable enough business, so we discontinued most of our services and I went off to work as an IT consultant. Ronda took Carnell in a new direction by starting an online cooking magazine called Seasoned Cooking.

I learned a lot as a consultant, but ultimately found it deeply unfulfilling. After a few years in the consulting business, I took a job as the IT department for a startup company. About a year later, I moved on to another small startup and helped its absorption by a very big company.

During my later months at this company, I and some colleagues ventured quietly to start up a new company. By October of 2003, I finally left my previous job and started working full time in this new company. That was going quite well until my partners lost faith in the idea and cancelled funding.

Today

As of this writing (11/1/2004), I'm working again as a consultant in the Madison area. I'm also busy pursuing various hobbies, including artificial intelligence (AI) research, in my spare time.

Ronda's magazine's readership has grown greatly. I've had the pleasure of developing most of the software for and structure of it, freeing her to focus on the substance of it all.

We have been living in our first house since 1999 in Middleton, Wisconsin with our furry child, a Siamese cat named Java.

Of course there are pictures. Enjoy.
