Figure: Examples of machine vision in action.
I've long been interested in the subject of machine vision. Recently, I've been doing actual work in machine vision. When one does, it quickly becomes clear how much of a challenge the subject can be. I've been experimenting with lots of different techniques and concepts. Really, though, I find I do a lot more thinking than development. That's often because I don't have the time or the requisite knowledge yet to implement some of the ideas I consider.

Recently, I finished a first draft of an introduction to machine vision, mainly for people who are just getting started or who perhaps want to step out of some narrow subfield and into the broader realm. That was a very satisfying project, but I had to go out of my way to avoid delving deeper into the guts of the subject matter for fear of turning it into a much bigger project.

So I decided to make a separate, more "living" document, to consider a variety of issues in machine vision. My AI blog is not a bad place for some of it, but it's too disjointed and non-hierarchic to be practical for someone wanting to focus on some aspect of the subject. It may seem somewhat willy nilly, but there it is.

While I'm still fresh in the subject, I expect I will continue to add content to this page. So if you're interested, feel free to check back here and take note of the last-updated date at the top of the page to see when there's new content. Also, I encourage you to give me feedback on the subject often and in as much or little detail as you like. Much of my knowledge comes from reading and studying what other people are doing, so do let me know about your ideas and work, too. method="post" action="../../../ai/feedback.asp">
